Administrators

Thank you for considering Fuel: PDX on Fire for a fall assembly at your school! We'd like to schedule 10 days of school visits prior to our September 24th event. We propose to bring jugglers, fire performers, and tesla coils to an assembly at your school around the time we'd be visiting to view the student work of your participating classrooms. These would be under the supervision of the Portland Fire Department, and would include both indoor and outside components. Participating classrooms will already have earned tickets to Fuel: PDX on Fire. While the entire school is the audience to our performers, our performers are also visiting to see student work underway and on display in relation to our project.

Our goals with these assemblies are three-fold:

  1. To raise awareness and attendance of our event by students 8-18 and their families.

  2. To place gravity and meaningful recognition in the presentation of student work.

  3. To raise awareness of fire technology and craft in the region, including the social and political consequences and controversies surrounding our consumption.

The process for arranging an assembly is as follows:

  1. Contact Benjamin Grad at 206-383-7306 for a sit-down meeting with participating teachers and the administrator.

  2. At this meeting, we'll discuss appropriate levels of performance, student participation, and safety.

  3. Beginning of Year: Participating Classrooms engage in Fuel Projects

  4. Assembly between 9/10/2010 and 9/23/2010

  5. Event is 9/24/2010 - 9/26/2010. Main student tie-ins will occur during the day and early evening of Saturday and Sunday.

We hope to make this a yearly event - help us make our curricular offerings robust!
