FAQ

Q: I'm a Fire Spinner and I would like to get in for free!

A: Answer:

Q: What's the difference between a Rock Star and a Fire Performer?
A: Rock Stars don't think they're Fire Performers

There are three opportunities for a person to perform with Fire at Fuel.

  1. As part of a large troupe in the juried exhibitions.

  2. As a staff performer, working audience spaces as busker crews

  3. As a ticketed participant under supervision at the Spinjam Corral. Fire Performers who wish to perform should email deadletter@fuelpdxonfire.com

Q: What's this? A public Spinjam?

A: Participants who bring their own tools will be permitted to spin under supervision during particular hours. Participants who wish to spin in the Spin Jam Corral need to make sure that they inform the gate so that they can get a yellow NOT DRINKING bracelet at the gate. Fuel can be donated at the gate - fuel will be provided at the Fuel Depot. NO PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO SPIN FIRE OUTSIDE OF THE SPINJAM CORRAL.

Q: What kind of positions are you currently recruiting for?

A: Gate staff, Fire Safeties, Fire Performers, Fire Troupes, Vaudevillian Acts and Buskers.

——————————————

Q: I hear you're requiring all your volunteers to purchase a ticket in advance, is that true?

A: Yes, all volunteers will need to purchase their ticket in advance. Your up front investment will assist in throwing the event, reduce absenteeism as well as offer our sponsors honest numbers of how many people will be expected.

Q: I hear you're giving away free tickets to cool people, is that true?

A: We are currently accepting applications to earn your ticket for anything from stilting, juggling and busking to even a simply fabulous costume or group of costumes. We're interested in filling our crowds with interesting characters, to help our audiences feel as if they have been given 'permission' to really participate.

We will be jurying costume and clown applications in advance, so don't plan to simply show up! Cut off for clown tickets applications is September 1st.

You will need to purchase your ticket in advance and then we will reimburse you after the event.

Q: I hear that you're giving away free tickets on Sunday?

A: Not exactly. If you have a full-priced ticket for Friday or Saturday, and you return with a person who purchases a full price ticket on Sunday, you can enter for the reduced price of $5.

——————————————

Q: What do you really want us to know?

A: An event like this is all about planning. Planning for how young and old and drunk and late audiences of all types are going to interact with fire performances and sculptures. So don't surprise us with anything!

Q: I heard there is camping?

A: Camping is for staff and crews - the minimum staffing level to be able to camp is that of a full weekend volunteer or fire performer. Participants with clown tickets will not qualify for camping, nor will they have access to crew camping during the event.
